Quiet Summer, Busy Winter.

I’m sorry I haven’t blogged for a while, I didn’t have any games over the summer. I’m going to blog a lot over the next few weeks because I have 5 games within an 8 week period. I’m very excited!

The first one was in Devon 2 weeks ago. It was Hereford Poison Berries Vs DASH & SWAT. I had a fantastic game!

In my first jam I scored over 40 points, it was amazing! The crowd were cheering and clapping and I was so happy. But I didn’t score 40 points on my own. I scored them because my Blockers kept the other Jammer in the pack.

My coaches have taught me that winning a game means working as a team and everyone has an important role to play. I’m not more important when I’m Jamming because I can’t score any points unless my Blockers hold back the other Jammer.

At my last game in Eastbourne I had found jamming tough, so over the summer I’ve been working on my footwork and how to create gaps in the wall and then get through the gaps. All my practicing was worth it because I was able to use it in this game. I won the Best Jammer certificate.

My next challenge is improving my blocking. I am only tiny compared to my team mates so I can’t brace them and they find it hard to brace me. I get pushed forward easily so I’m working on that. It’s hard being the youngest and the smallest. I’m only 10 years old but I’ve been training hard for 2 years and I’m determined to be the best I can be. I love Roller Derby!

I’d like to say thank you to the team I played, it was a mixture of DASH and SWAT and for most of them it was their first game. You all played really well!
